Massage Therapists and Dealing With Difficult People

CLIENT

I was not told about the tool the therapist used until I arrived for my appointment.

MY RESPONSE

While this statement is true the intake process prior to the massage also includes gaining permission for using both non-allergenic coconut oil and the tool I use during the massage.  This takes place with each new client that I work with.

NOTE:  You can read through other reviews and see that the results of the resource I use are phenominal in most cases including this one which I will further explain in a moment.

CLIENT

It seemed to work during this session…

MY RESPONSE

Yes, it was working and I check in with my clients throughout the session to make sure that it continues to work.

CLIENT

… however immediately following, I noticed my pain level increasing, I couldn’t breathe and I was under extreme duress crying.

MY RESPONSE

This was my first indication of trouble which I have not witnessed with any other client.  I began to take proper action accordingly as will be revealed ahead.

CLIENT

He had to get the chiropractor to lodge my ribs back in place So I could breathe again.

MY RESPONSE

My professional expertise allows me to work with muscles.  That’s my speciality.  As a muscle releases if a rib is out it is going to cause muscle grabbing which is exactly what happened.  This is the first time in 3 years that I have witnessed this result.

Had their not been a bone issue I would not have secured help from the Chiropractor.  Once things turned to bone I realized it was out of scope with my practice and immediately turned to expertise that is beyond my understanding.

CLIENT

I’ve never experienced anything like this massage before And I get at least six massages a year.

MY RESPONSE

Yes, the massages that I provide are more focused on Trigger Point within a Deep Tissue mindset than other Therapists.  This is a correct statement and one which is getting rave reviews from 95% of all that I work with.

CLIENT

The masseuse rarely used his hands and used a vibrating tool instead.

MY RESPONSE

I do not agree with this statement though I can appreciate the clients persepective.  As the tool that is being referenced was gaining such great results, I did use what appeared to me to be working best to what I believed was the best interest of the clients requirements.

CLIENT

I asked where his training was and he was closed about it.

MY RESPONSE

The only reason I would not answer such a question is if I did not hear it.  Not hard to imagine since much of the massage is spent faced down into a circular pillow that is designed for the purposes of massage therapy.

For the record, I was trained at Black Hills Health and Education in Hermosa, SD.  Though I have taken other classes since the training that was necessary for me to receive my license.

CLIENT

I will not go back and I do not recommend.

MY RESPONSE

It should be noted that this session took place during the time of increased biking due to the Sturgis rally that happens here.  It should both be noted and considered accordingly.

CLIENT

I rated professionalism low because he was not forthcoming on his training

MY RESPONSE

I have already addressed this concern.

CLIENT

and he was trying to sell me another appointment

MY RESPONSE

After seeing the results of the first massage I knew based on the clients circumstances that a follow up massage would be a good idea.

As I was making this suggestion to a client who was exhibiting this statement:

“It seemed to work during this session…”

But when the bone began to grab and the client was increasingly exhibiting the results thereof I ensured the clients comfort and went for help that was beyond the scope of my practice instead.

CLIENT

as I was increasingly becoming distressed with pain and crying.

MY RESPONSE

At this point my recommendation had stopped and I was waiting for the Chiropractor to arrive instead.  When he did I remained present to provide any type of assistance that I possibly could which at this point was minimal.

After the event ended I sought counsel of the Chiropractor who advised me that their was little to nothing that I could have done differently because as the muscles were relaxed the bone became aware of its displacement and issues esculated accordingly.

When he learned in December 2017 he was suffering from high blood pressure (hypertension), he turned to massage as a potential answer for his problem. Rather than engage massage as a client, Guy chose to become a massage practitioner and enrolled in the Black Hills School of Massage in Hermosa, SD. He is now licensed to provide Swedish, Deep Tissue and Trigger Point massage among other modalities. He, and his wife Irene who is also a massage practitioner, have joined forces with the Fountain of Youth Waterstore in Rapid City where they provide clients with comforting relief from body aches and pains. Be sure to ask Guy what happened with his blood pressure when you see him for your initial treatment session.
